In-pipe Robot with Capability of Self Stabilization and Accurate Pipe Surface Cleaning

چکیده
After 50 years the connections between fresh water pipes (800-1000mm diameter) need to be repaired due to aging and dissolution of the filling material. Only in Vienna 3000km of pipes need to be improved, which requires a robotic solution. The main challenge is to accurate place the robot in the center of the pipe while overcoming the push back forces and vibrations caused in the cleaning process, so that the cleaning tool is able to focus on desired area of the pipe surface. This paper presents the overall design of an in-pipe cleaning robot DeWaLoP, which includes a suspension system to position itself as a rigid structure stably in the center of the pipe, while the H configuration of the robot arm is able to stabilize the cleaning tool in the cleaning process, to reduce the vibration and push back forces.

Development of mobile minirobots for in pipe inspection tasks
Robotics is one of the fastest growing engineering fields of today. Robots are designed to remove the human factor from labour intensive or dangerous work and also to act in inaccessible environment. The use of robots is more common today than ever before and it is no longer exclusively used by the heavy production industries. The inspection of pipes may be relevant for improving security and e...
متن کاملOn The In-pipe Inspection Robots Traversing Through Elbows
A general robotic mechanism was presented for in-pipe inspection oflevel pipes with varied diameter or curved pipelines. The robot employed three legs comprised of parallelogram linkages mechanism which enables adapting to various elbow joints in the piping systems. The curvatures in pipeline are the most important constraints in front of the robot through navigation process. To study the adapt...
متن کاملStabilization of Electrostatically Actuated Micro-pipe Conveying Fluid Using Parametric Excitation
This paper investigates the parametric excitation of a micro-pipe conveying fluid suspended between two symmetric electrodes. Electrostatically actuated micro-pipes may become unstable when the exciting voltage is greater than the pull-in value. It is demonstrated that the parametric excitation of a micro-pipe by periodic (ac) voltages may have a stabilizing effect and permit an increase of the...
متن کاملPhysical Modelling of Self-Aeration in a Cavitating Sudden PIPE Expansion Flow
Sudden pipe expansions have been known as efficient hydraulic energy dissipaters for a long time. The complex phenomenon of flow separation and velocity discontinuity at the interface of incoming jet and the recirculation flow, results in intensive shear and tensile rupture of the fluid and the associated destructive phenomenon of cavitation. This paper focuses on aeration in sudden pipe expans...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Semi-Elliptical Axial Crack in Pipe Bend Using XFEM
In this work, XFEM is employed to obtain the stress intensity factors (SIFs) of a semi elliptical part through thickness axial crack. In XFEM, additional functions are employed to enrich the displacement approximation using partition of unity approach. Level set functions are approximated using higher order shape functions in the crack front elements to ensure the accurate modeling of the crack...
